HEllo!

I am Vasilisa, Lisa for short. I am a sculptor, teacher, and mom, based in New Haven, CT.

In my artwork, I draw inspiration from all parts of my life, but particularly from my neurobiology background and my experience as a mother. I have a strong connection to building with my hands, and materials carry a lot of meaning for me. I don’t have a medium that I identify with, rather I find a material specifically for each project that I work on.

My goal in teaching is to build my students’ creativity, create an environment for them to learn through making, and for everyone to have fun! I am inspired by Mitchel Resnick’s Lifelong Kindergarten and aim to design open-ended projects that allow for each student to incorporate their unique passions rather than projects where everyone makes exactly the same thing.

I received my MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and I received my BFA in sculpture and BA in biology with a specialization in neurobiology from Boston University.
